Leonardo Di Caprio rightly said ”We have only one planet yet many of us live like as if we have three or four more”.
We must remember that without a healthy planet, nothing matters whether education, hunger or science and technological development as we will not survive in the long run. We all know and talk about the various ways to live a sustainable lifestyle for a greener future. We also realize that the modern advancements have not only taken a toll on the quality of air we breathe in , water we drink, food we eat but also added to waste accumulation on our dear planet Earth.
The most important environmental issue is the lack of conservation ethics in our culture but as it is said “Be the change you want to see in the world”, it is we the younger generation who needs to take the first step towards a green future. Although we hear so much about environmental deterioration on a rise but we are hopeful for a better tomorrow as we at Mayoor School Noida -mentor, guide and educate our young generation about the environmental issues and the green warriors of Mayoor School work consistently towards saving mother Earth.
Environmental values and ethics are instilled from a very young age as the vast majority of brain development happens between the ages of zero to three which is the perfect time for children to build the positive social-emotional skills they need. During these formative years we focus on teaching them the foundational skills required for critical thinking, social interactions, and creativity as later in life, these skills will enable them to analyze environmental issues, communicate those ideas to peers and ultimately find solutions.
Taking all the above things into consideration, Mayoor School, being among the top CBSE schools in Noida has incorporated Environmental Education as an extremely important part of the curriculum. The little Mayoorians are not only well aware about the three Rs – i.e. REDUCE REUSE & RECYCLE and also the fourth R which has been added recently to RETHINK before we do any act that may harm the environment.
The Mayoor family takes all possible measures to act in an environment friendly way and our green warriors now know how to LIVE GREEN.
Living green means making decisions and engaging in practices which reduce negative impact on the health of the planet and its inhabitants.
Children are encouraged to save electricity, water and other resources. Mayoorians make sure that no one around them is using plastic bags and single use plastic products.
The children are also encouraged to celebrate their birthday in a unique way. They celebrate their birthday as a GREEN BIRTHDAY- CLEAN BIRTHDAY. They try to make it a zero waste birthday. They live 100% green on their birthday.
*Children start their day by cleaning their teeth with a ‘Neem Datun’ for shining white teeth and SAY NO TO PLASTIC TOOTHBRUSHES.
*Every birthday they plant or adopt a tree and promise to take care of it forever. Imagine by the time they reach the age of 25 they would have 25 trees of their own giving fruits and oxygen for everyone.
*Birthday is the time when children buy a new dress to wear for the party but our students either try to reuse their elder sibling’s party wear.
*They donate their story books and toys to the children of their house help.
*No balloons or party poppers for a Mayoorians birthday instead they decorate using reusable things.
*The food for the party is always served in washable crockery to reduce garbage.
* After the party the biodegradable waste is put in the compost pit so that the green friends in the garden get the nutrition too.
*They sing songs and play antakshari and other party games instead of loud music on speakers.
*Creative return gifts like PLANTABLE PENCILS can be given as they have seeds of a flowering plant at their end and when the pencil is too small to hold then one can plant this pencil too.
*A zero waste ecofriendly birthday is indeed an excellent way to express gratitude to our mother Earth and a small contribution towards saving our planet.
