Why is experiential learning important

"

“Knowledge results from the combination of grasping experience and transforming it”.

Experiential learning is the process of learning by doing and it focuses on an individual. It comprises of learning activities, both inside and outside the classroom that are designed to actively engage students to learn by doing, and then reflecting on the process and experience and actively creating their own understanding. By engaging students in hands-on experiences and reflection, they are able to connect theories and knowledge learned in the classroom to real world situations.

Mastering expertise is a continuous process of:

1. Experience

2. Reflection

3. Conceptualization

4. Experimentation

The above elements make up the experiential learning cycle which shows the relationship between them.

Mayoor School, being one of the best CBSE affiliated school in Noida, strives to provide students with opportunities to take initiative, make decisions and be accountable for the results. Our main focus is to give opportunities to the students to apply data and ideas in a real-world situation where they too play an active role.

As NEP 2020 is pushing for experiential learning process, teachers in Mayoor School do a lot to promote hand-on learning approach within and outside their classrooms. Open ended discussion activities, hands-on laboratory experiments, group work and project based learning are also an important part of our curriculum.

In traditional learning process, the teacher is the central focus, while experiential learning flips the focus on to the students themselves. Thus learning outcomes are more flexible and less about a scoring system alone. It is one of the best way to teach creative problem solving. With the real- world content, children learn that there are multiple solutions to challenges  and they are encouraged to seek their unique solution to hands-on tasks.

Again, depicting that it indeed is the Best CBSE School in Noida,  the students in Mayoor School are allowed to work within a space that is made safe for self exploration which helps them to analyse and even alter their own values. By being involved and part of the learning process, the students experience a dynamic method of learning in which they are emotionally present , so learning happens more naturally.

We are among the top ten schools in Noida  where the teachers follow experiential learning and teach beyond theory and move into the realm of‘ first-hand experience. Thus by applying their knowledge and skill, the students in Mayoor School are able to increase retention of concepts. Thus, keeping students more proactive, involved, and enthusiastic in school  so that they are not left behind in any aspect.
